Building land prices the greatest factor in rising costs of housing development
Between 2011 and 2016, average building land prices for owner-occupied homes throughout Germany have risen by 27 percent from EUR 129 to EUR 164 per square metre. In major cities, the square-metre price for building land has increased by 33 percent – from slightly over EUR 250 in 2011 to almost EUR 350 in 2016. The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) within the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) is a departmental research institution under the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). It advises the Federal Government with sectoral scientific consultation in the political fields of spatial planning, urban development, housing and building.
