Through analyses and forecasts of spatial, economic and social developments on the housing market, the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) provides basic information for the federal housing policy and the specialist public.
Significant main focuses are the establishment and operation of an ongoing housing market observation and the forecasts of the BBSR. The BBSR carries out research activities of its own on concrete housing policy measures, rent development and housing cost burden, housing stock development in sub-markets and on special housing economic, asset and socio-political individual questions.
For the housing benefit and rent report of the Federal Government, the BBSR also compiles the section relating to rents.
A further main focus lies in the conception, design and professional support of projects of the general departmental research of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) in the field of housing and of research projects in the framework of Experimental Housing and Urban Development (ExWoSt). This research work and expert analyses carried out by external bodies comprise topics which are highly relevant due to the current situation and the development tendencies in housing.
