Urban social diversity – city districts subject to demand pressure
Project of the research programme "ExWoSt"
For several years, major cities in economically strong regions – but also smaller university towns – have been experiencing a strong growth in population. This presents the cities with new problems, such as tense housing markets, scarcity of affordable housing, rising rents and displacement – particularly in city centres and neighbouring districts. Within the scope of twelve case studies, methods have been developed for an in-depth evaluation of changes occurring in the social diversity in urban districts, to describe and evaluate the phenomenon on a differentiated basis, and to identify indications where controls are needed.
