Regional structural policy
A central instrument of regional structural policy is the community task of "Improving the regional economic structure" (GRW). The BBSR supports the implementation of GRW by preparing expert's opinions on select aspects (e.g., infrastructure indicator), and also prepares its own analyses on regional development processes. In this context, labour market policy is also relevant, because it largely intersects with objectives of regional policy and also triggers key effects on spatial structure due to its high financial volume. This also applies to research and innovation policies, which are considered a central approach to strengthen Germany's regions within the framework of globalisation.
