Land use monitoring
The BBSR analyses different sources of data in order to obtain information on land use development in Germany and to be able to recognise relevant background aspects and specifics. One basis in this context is the land use survey, which is carried out by the Federal Statistical Office. In addition, other data sources that are evaluated include remote sensing surveys, such as CORINE (Coordinated Information on the Environment) Land Cover comparative landscape analysis 1990 and 2000, or ATKIS.
Land use monitoring is a key foundation for estimating current trends in land use, particularly in connection with settlement and transport infrastructure development, which is the special focus of the BBSR evaluations. The findings are published and presented in reports, maps, data and analyses.
