Type: News Date 18 January 2023 How up-to-date are spatial development plans in Germany in 2021?

State-wide and regional spatial structure plans are regularly updated. The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) monitors this development via its Regional Spatial Structure Plan Monitor (ROPLAMO). This latest report covers the period up to December 31st, 2021.

Its key findings are:

  • At the end of 2020, the Federal Spatial Plan for Flood protection came into force.
  • In the last three years, eleven integrated regional plans have been added or updated in their entirety.
  • Numerous regional plans have been updated through plan amendments and partial updates.
  • The amendments again focus primarily on the topics: settlement development, securing raw materials, and wind energy.
