An assessment of the regulation of wind energy use by spatial planning after Fukushima
Abstract
Wind energy on land plays a decisive role in the energy turnaround. In the article the objectives of the federal states for its extension are demonstrated and the instruments that are applied in spatial planning to regulate wind energy use are determined. Whether the aspired extension of wind energy will be successful depends decisively on the supply of spaces that are secured by planning law. In particular, regional planning is required to provide sufficient spaces for wind energy. The article considers the development of area designations by regional planning between 2009 and 2014. Additionally, the analysis of current planning drafts provides indications about the extent of future designations of spatial planning areas for wind energy.
