As part of the competition "Effizienzhaus Plus im Altbau" ("Efficiency House Plus in old buildings"), which was awarded in 2012, two residential areas dating back to 1938 were renovated in Neu-Ulm. The two different concepts of the realized model projects should exemplarily show how a sustainable further development of the residential building stock to the Effizienzhaus Plus for the wide application can be implemented in terms of building.
Project duration: May 2013 – November 2018
In 2012, the former BMVBS together with the NUWOG Wohnungsgesellschaft awarded the realisation competition "Effizienzhaus Plus im Altbau". Two developments from 1938 with a yearly energy consumption of more than 500 kWh/m²a were to be converted into an Efficiency House Plus building by means of an energy-efficient refurbishment. On the basis of the jury meeting on July 6, 2012 in Berlin, the two winning concepts of the TU Darmstadt and the Ruhr-West University of Applied Sciences were implemented for the two row buildings and inaugurated in May 2016. The measurement data of both objects were recorded and evaluated over a period of 30 months from 01.05.2016 to 31.10.2018 by the Institute of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Building e3D of the RWTH Aachen University.
The different design approaches of the realised model projects at Pfuhler Straße 4 + 6 and 12 + 14 should serve as demonstration projects and demonstrate in a public sense how a sustainable further development use of the housing stock for the wide application to the Efficiency House Plus can be implemented in a practical manner.
In the competition for an annual energy surplus production, the differences in the suitability of the concept and the quality of the planning as well as in the technical implementation of both buildings should be evaluated by measurement data. The energy monitoring has a control function in the operating phase in order to be able to prove both the used technologies of both building concepts, as well as the energetic quality of the building envelope and structure as well as the user-specific consumption. The presentation of current housing consumption via a web-based platform for tenants should also be an incentive to conserve energy in the home. Based on the measurement data, the verification of the Effizienzhaus Plus criteria and the comparison between the calculated energy requirement and the actual energy consumption are quantified.
Contractor of the research project was the Institute of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Building e3D of the RWTH Aachen University.
