Research Project: VerKoS – Transport consequences and costs of settlement development (Calculation of transport and settlement costs)

Concept

VerKoS is based on an older tool which now was evaluated, improved and functionally expanded:

• Improved calculation of transport volume
• uses typical mobility behaviour according to place of living
• estimates distances driven by vehicles and emissions
• estimates costs of all sorts of public transportation including refinancing through fees
• usable for both new and redevelopment projects
• includes housing, schools, and several downtown usages.

The contractors and The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) were attended by an advisory board of planners and scientists from several areas of urban and regional Planning and transportation planners.

The tool was tested by different professionals in smaller and bigger city administrations. The postulated shortcomings were rectified as far as possible.
