Official statistics fail to adequately capture the market of existing buildings in German residential and non-residential construction. The goal of this research project was to gather current and reliable data on inventory activities in residential and non-residential construction. Field research into the activities in residential and non-residential construction was differentiated by full and partial redevelopment, by energy efficiency measures, and by region.
Official statistics fail to adequately capture the market of existing buildings in German residential and non-residential construction. This study gathered current and reliable data on inventory activities in residential and non-residential construction.
The studies “The Structure of Investment Activity in Residential and Non-residential Inventory” for 2010, 2014 and 2018, launched by the BBSR (Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development), formed the basis for this research project. These studies used empirical research for a differentiated examination of measures in the residential and non-residential inventory and ascertained the pattern of construction works in the inventory. The study for 2020 is a continuation of this time sequence.
This study follows on from the previous studies regarding method and content. Further options for analysis were considered based on the research database for non-residential buildings. Because the data from the research database was not yet available at the start of the project, only initial analyses of the data could be carried out within the scope of this study. These have shown that a more detailed investigation into its possible usability for future projects is necessary.
The research object was inventory investments made in 2020. Existing projects were differentiated as follows:
Contractor of the project was Heinze GmbH, Celle.
