Transnational cooperation in the field of spatial development

Logo INTERREG B

Removing economic, social and spatial differences and promoting the coalescence of Europe - these are the objectives of Interreg. With the Interreg programmes, the European Union promotes European territorial cooperation with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Transnational cooperation in cross-national cooperation areas, as promoted by Interreg Strand B, is an important aspect here.

The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) within the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) supports this transnational cooperation by

  • participating in the development of joint programmes in the cooperation areas,
  • steering the programmes in the context of transnational and German committees,
  • carrying out transnational cooperation activities,
  • transferring results and running public relations,

Information about transnational cooperation (Interreg B) can be found on the website www.interreg.de. Here you will i.a. find information on the six transnational programme areas with German participation, the BBSR's Interreg project database, good example projects, our Interreg Journal and other publications, news, our Interreg Blog and other services.

The German Federal Government also supports participation in transnational projects. With the Federal Transnational Cooperation Programme (>> more information), the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB), together with the BBSR, supports German partners in projects of particular interest to the German Government in raising national cofinancing, formulating project proposals and running effective public relations.

For detailed information on the programme as well as events, publications and contacts, please have a look at the German-speaking Interreg B website at National funding.
