Germany took over the EU Council Presidency on 1 July 2020 – due to the current corona pandemic under difficult conditions. In addition to the negotiations on the next seven-year EU budget, an agreement now has to be reached on the recovery plan proposed by the European Commission to combat the consequences of the corona crisis in the EU and to support the economy.
In the fields of spatial and urban development, the adoption of the Territorial Agenda 2030 of the EU and the New Leipzig Charter are on the agenda. The BBSR is intensively involved in the work on these two documents and the preparation of various events during the Presidency.
