The research project involved analysis of successful transformation projects in European river basins. Thereby, the focus was on planning, organisation and implementation processes. Based on the results, recommendations were made to support the different planning levels and further relevant stakeholders planning comparable projects for upgrading urban river spaces.
As this study shows, the public can - under the current legal guidelines and planning requirements - be involved more closely than in the preparation of regional plans than has been the case in the past.
